Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.


Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

I bred this using my two favourite horses for my colour collection, and it is actually not a bad horse.

^ I've bred 3 other foals using the same parents, and they've all been French Trotters. The dam is 50% tb / 50% ft, and the sire is 50% knab / 25% tb / 25% ft. Do you think it is just a coincidence that all 4 of the foals are trotters and not tbs?

Wow, sorry for the triple post. I just thought that maybe the fact that French Trotter alphabetically comes before Thoroughbred might be a contributing factor. Maybe that is why they are all trotters?

I don't think I've shown off my crosses. They're not the greatest, but it's all about trial and error. It's a shame I can't work on them as much as I'd like, but my Int'l account takes up so much time during the week. default smiley xd

Hello! I'm thinking of maybe focusing on crossbreeding on here. On my Intl. account, I've only ever done purebreds, but I've heard of cross-breeding and is sounds mighty fun. Does anyone have any advice on what breeds to start with?

yes cross breeding is mighty fun! I would recommend which ever horses you like the look of most, or some of the breeds with the higher GP if your more interested in getting cross bred skillers. friesians are the highest GP horses on here right now with just over 1300 gp is the very best one in the game, I think quarter horse have the next greatest GP. or maybe you want achieve certain amounts of stars in each skill, if that's the case then you should decide what skills you want your horse to excel in most, then find whatever horses are best at thatdefault smiley :d

yes I actually tried that mix awhile back, the foal turned out with pretty much around 200gp in every skill!default smiley :o well trot was only around 100 since akhals tekes worst skill is trot, but I found it was a good mix if you want an all-round horsedefault smiley :-))

Bred my Purebred Spanish Horse with a 1/2 Friesian 1/2 Hanoverian sire - she has 17 stars

bred her with a thoroughbred and the twins both have 29 stars

all excel in dressage - pretty solid breeds i must say

I'm thrilled to see such successful Knabs crosses! I have been playing around with them as well and, although I still have yet to find that perfect combination, I really think the Knab crosses could be a force in the comp!

@Dakota: Thank you! I'm trying to get him onto the top 20 of XC and then maybe #1, but that will take a very long time (although I did it before on my old US account with another cross)

I have a purebred Friesian mare whom for some reason is not dominant at all whenever I cross her with another breed. Just something I thought of, if anyone would like a cross foal from her you can message me and we can work out a deal for it This is her:

With a 50/50 cross the foal will always take after the breed of the stallion. when breeding any other percentage cross the foal will always take after the highest percentage breed in the cross. Meaning a 75% Friesian cross 25% Fjord will be named as a Friesian. while a 50% Friesian 50% Fjord cross where the stallion is Fjord will always be Fjord
