Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

First post... yay!
I'm starting off with Akhal-Teke/French Trotter crosses. I will post the first foal once there actually is one so you guys can see how it turned out. Hopefully I won't be the only ever in here so someone might actually see it. default smiley (lol)

I am going to do PB QH and QH X. I think i moght breed Alexis with... i will see later
By Retired breeder, 24th January 2011 03:19:35
I'm doing QH/Akhal Teke. Exact same top three skills. Made a pretty decent foal. For newbies you should always breed horses with the same top three skills unless you are just having fun.

I've always just experimented. I crossbreed on the International version too and have had some pretty decent foals from my random experiments. I've never gone for the 'same top 3 skills' thing though. It makes more sense to try to even out the skills or improve the lowest skills in a breed to me. But that could be just me. We're all entitled to our opinions right? default smiley :d

I think it depends what you are going for.
By Retired breeder, 24th January 2011 15:47:45
I agree with recklessdreamer. It does all depend what you're going for and trying to achieve with your crossbreeds. And we'll all have different methods to get where we're trying to go. Breeding all-stars will be way different that improving the top 3 skills (which I'm guessing is what jumanji321 is doing). It all depends on how you see crossbreeding and why you're doing it. default smiley :)

I always when I cross-bred try to find a match who will boost the skills that are week in each breed. So if one breed is week in stamina, but strong in speed, I will try to make a cross where speed and stamina will be strong, and so on.

I think my first cross, when my horses are trained enough will end up being a ArabianxFrench trotter because it should boost some skills, and improve others. I'll have to wait the 10 days out at least before I can access the auction and get an Arabian.

im goan do trotters and akel first then add in frisian and see wat i get default smiley :k
By Retired breeder, 24th January 2011 19:36:49
where can u find all the breed info.?
By Retired breeder, 24th January 2011 19:50:40
Emiry - that's usually pretty much what I do too and I love every foal I get

I like the crossbreds with lots of different breeds in them too, instead of just 2-5. They're just so much more interesting to me. (:

COW_horse34 - That should be interesting, I wonder what kind of skills will be best in that mix... I guess we'll just have to wait to find out
Breed info? Like, what skills are it's best and the colours, etc.? You go Directories > Horses and then click on the breed you want the info on. If that doesn't help maybe ask your question a little clearer?
By Retired breeder, 24th January 2011 20:45:50
COW_horse34- you need to wait 30 days and pass the 4th riding test, OR buy and spend passes on the business key I think
By Retired breeder, 24th January 2011 21:06:02
yea i figured it out i think im gona do thoughbreed instead or the akle and make a dresssage beast i looked though to see who has the best in trot dressage and gallop and though 3 had the best default smiley :k

On the International version, I found that a Hanoverian mare and a PSH stallion makes a very good X-country competitor. Because the stamina skill isn't compromised by the cross and the hanoverian mare gives extra jumping skills the foal gets an edge in the comps.
By Retired breeder, 24th January 2011 23:24:33
LaPrevoyante - That's smart! I might have to try that if I ever get a Hano and/or PSH
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 01:29:27
That's why I said you only need to do that if you are planning on improving those skills. I do think trying to even them out is a good idea too. I might try that out with two opposite skilled breeds.
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 01:55:02
I'm with Megooni, we are also gonna try other versions of that I think.
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 02:10:55
Other versions of what? What are we talking about?
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 02:23:57
I was thinking maybe Shetlands and something else, not sure yet.
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 02:27:55
I experimented with a Mustang/Paint cross on the International site, but we don't have mustangs. Yet.
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 02:32:13
Oooohhh.... I get it now. Stupid cold is making me a little dumber than usual default smiley :p
A Shetland cross would be cool. I've never done a pony mix before...
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 02:38:07
I like to mix in the little buggers because they are so good at jumping (most, anyway).
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 03:04:07
That makes sense
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 19:11:05
Unlike you...default smiley :p
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 19:22:24
default smiley ;) After my NIB Connemaras get off the ground, may do NIB TB and Arab crosses, or in other words, Anglo Arabs. Gonna be *epic*
By Retired breeder, 25th January 2011 19:43:02
Emoo! That's not nice! I make plenty of sense... you just have to get used to being around and learn my language first.

Epic is a cool word... And I'm sure those NIB Anglo Arabs will be *epic*
