Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

ok thank you! do crossbred skillers ranked in the top 10 in skills for their primary breed have any value? or do people not want them?
By Retired breeder, 3rd December 2014 02:03:26
DREAMER1127 has done that on US, Blue Horizons. It's true that only the first 5 will show up on the genetics tab, but when you look at the horse's family tree it has every breed in the game.

that's really cool. too bad only 5 show up...... I still would like to know if crossbred skillers ranked in the top 10 in skills for their primary breed have any value? or do people not want them?
By Retired breeder, 4th December 2014 08:25:46
It depends on the player. Some players would see the horse as worthless because of its mixed nature. Some are very set on purebreds. Others, like myself, view the horse as very valuable.
I breed and train mixes to be show horses. the more skills in each category the better. At least for me.

awesome im the same way, its all about the individual, we don't need to prejudge just because its mixed

hey guys, so I'm sure all us crossbreeders have the same problem. you have a great cross!, it works well, maybe even is in the top rankingsdefault smiley (y) (I personally am the founder of the Chivalry Isn't Dead group and we bred the top PSH Skiller, which is a crossbred of course) my point is that all us crossbreeders that have good crosses to offer believe they are worth something and shouldn't be dismissed just because they arnt "purebred". remember crossbreds are horses too some of which can accomplish more than anything "pure". (so back on track lol) so what can we do to show people that our (all crossbreeders) have worth? that they arnt valueless! does anyone have an idea that could help change the mentality that "they arnt any good"?

I thank you all for reading and I certainly hope that this isn't breaking any rules, I'm just trying to help.

First cross on this server! Hoping to come up with a cross for each Prix discipline.

I am working on the ultimate skillerdefault smiley ;) its a lot of crossing but its worth it! I mean hey that's how we got our modern sporthorses/Warmbloods todaydefault smiley ^)
I think for some people that the bias against crossbreeds is part of the challenge of the game. It IS more challenging to get the sort of GP's you can get through crosses if you want a purebred. And then it's more challenging again to avoid inbreeding.

Personally I want all the coat trophies with purebreds but that's just a personal challenge I set for myself. Ultimately I also want them all to have my affixes on them which will be a pain since some of my immortals I purchased.

I am just starting to dabble in cross breeding although I did manage to get one Friesian cross with lovely skills. Him and a few other 'oopses' in the trades got me started but now I have a working theory and am trying to line my herd up to go where I want.

Whether it works or not remains to be seen but there we go.

Would a Paint Horse/ Friesian Cross go far in Howrse? One of the examples I have is:
[url=http://ca.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=1273569] Haru[/*url]

The Skills thay have doesn't seem to have been changed tho.
By Retired breeder, 16th February 2015 02:01:16
To create a link you must remove the * from before the url.
That mix would be good for winning most English comps (aside from XC and Dressage) especially SJ, and also for Cutting. So yes, I think it is a possibility.

Oh LOL. OOPS. Thank you Antares for helping me. I have another Paint Friesian, and she appears to be doing well with Western Pleasure, but that might be luck..

What are you going for? Either way, that is a very versatile filly default smiley (y)
It would be interesting to see how a tearbred foal from the same parents would fare if you're planning to skill or use for rosettes. I've seen quite a few cross horses do excellently there.

Jeannes -
You're welcome! Not by luck, she has high Stamina & Dressage with comparatively low trot - perfect for WP. default smiley :)

thanks Antares. my aim is the "ultimate skiller" I want to breed a horse with high GP's in each skill but all around the same GP's in each skill. hope that makes sense lol
By Retired breeder, 17th February 2015 19:44:55
im really liking my TB x knab cross it has almost even GP's in each skill. only down side is not much staminadefault smiley :(
By Retired breeder, 17th February 2015 19:46:32
my bad it was a TB x Hano and it also has a total lack of trot default smiley :@
By Retired breeder, 18th February 2015 01:45:54
Blue Horizons - A partner and I were the first on US Howrse to breed a cross with a red star in each skill, it is certainly a worthwhile venture and very rewarding after the initial frustration default smiley (lol)
Try a TW or Icey with the TB x Hano - that should help out Stam and Trot
By Retired breeder, 18th February 2015 04:28:53
Antares: that partner would be champion96, correct? The American Red affix? Those are amazing horses!
By Retired breeder, 18th February 2015 14:43:45

Thank you so much! I will do that nowdefault smiley ;)
By Retired breeder, 18th February 2015 14:50:26
hey Antares what about that TB x Hano to a QH x Knab? the QH has 30* in stamina and the Knab is a 76* so it has like a 270ish trot GP(not sure exactly.
