Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

Crye4me:

I've done a lot of crossbreeding with a lot of Friesians. 90% of the time if the Friesian is purebred, like mine is, I get a Friesian foal regardless of which parent the Friesian is. I've found Friesians the hardest to crossbreed with based on that fact alone, which is why Belfire is the only Friesian I use when crossbreeding with one directly

@hoodoo: if you want a Friesian dominant cross, breed one of your friesian mare's MALE 50/50 cross offspring to another 50/50 cross (it cannot have the dominant breed in the stud you are breeding it to), and you will get a friesian.

Example: ♂ 50/50 Fjord dominant and Friesian + ♀ 50/50 PSH dominant and Thoroughbred = Friesian foal

@funfunisland: try TBxPSH, a friend of mine on the US server used to breed those, and three of them are still ranked in the top 10 for PSH gallop even though she quit breeding a long time ago

Hello default smiley :)
I am planning on breeding crossbreed horses once I am 30 days. <No asking an opinion in the forums please>
By Retired breeder, 18th January 2014 19:15:27
@tattle tale: you can crossbreed any time you want as long as you have a mare and enough money to pay for public coverings...

Im trying to breed high GP Welsh crosses. Friesians are great so I have two WelshXFriesians now. I bred them and was expecting a welsh foal since the sire is welsh but it came out a Friesian. Will this cross always be a Friesian?
By Retired breeder, 31st January 2014 15:52:56
For a 50/50 cross, the breed will always be the sires.

If you breed together two 50/50 crosses (even if they are the same combination), the foal will always be the breed of the granddam

Has there been an all red starred cross on this server yet? Just curious because few weeks back there the first all red starred horse was bred on the US server and the top horse gps on US server and CA server are similar, so wondering if anyone has bred one yet.
The only way to find this out would be to search the breeds in the directories and look at the breed variations.

How is the breed variations determined though?
Or would this question belong in Game Play?
Seems like all the cross experts are in here though.

No definitely do not put in the GPF. The mods will flip if they see that. They like to keep the GPF clean of anything that could possibly be linked to an events topic (see this topic)

Only horses which are an improvement over the last variation of the breed like them will appear in the variations. A purebred horse is considered a variation.

If a person crosses TB x AT (pretty common on the US server), it will *only* show up if the horse has more stars than the best TB x AT cross.

If a person makes a new cross (like this horse who is in the variations for Trotters), then it will automatically show up because it hasn't been bred before
Basically the newest excellency stars makes it into the variations.

i have yet 2 breed an Arabian and a gypsy vanner
By Retired breeder, 12th March 2014 13:15:23
I bred an Arabian-Gypsy Vanner cross and once it turned out an Arabian and the next it was a gypsy Vanner. It worked out well!

I also did a paint and Icelandic horse, and the ultrasound says it's a paint.
I'm also doing Nokota-Icelandic and she's only at 4 months so.....

Have fun breeding!

When it's a 50/50 cross, the breed will always be the father. When it's an uneven cross with one dominant percentage then that is what the breed it.

I haven't tried any of those crosses, you'll have to share some of them to see who they are doing!

I have a French trotter and thoroughbred cross, as well as a tb Connemara, and welsh tb cross...
By Retired breeder, 12th April 2014 15:18:21
Hello, after a long hiatus for various reasons, I'm getting back in the game with a few new crosses I've discovered. I call them 'Natives': Nez Perce - Appie/AT; Choctaw - Mustang/?; Chickasaw(aka Florida Cracker) - Mustang/Barb/Paso/Criollo.

I'm thinking with the Choctaw maybe crossing it with Appaloosa and Paint and/or possibly a bit of Quarter.
By Retired breeder, 12th April 2014 15:25:00

Your problem is that you're breeding to a purebred stallion. All 50/50 will take after the sire.

100% X breed + 100% Y breed = sire's breed

50/50 Arab/TB + 50/50 Arab/TB = TB with Arab/TB being the breed order

50/50 Arab/TB + 50/50 TB/Arab = Second listed breed of the sire

The only instance that can gaurentee a Friesian is if the percentage is greater than the other breeds. 100% Fri + 50/50 XY breed = 75% Fri 25% X breed 25% Y breed.
By Retired breeder, 13th April 2014 06:17:36
Well, for my Florida Cracker/Chickasaw I'll have to substitute or wait for a couple to show up (if ever). Was brought to my attention on the US server. Dragon's breath!
By Retired breeder, 30th April 2014 11:25:55
okay I am quite new to this game and I have no idea what 50/50 means. 50/50 what?
