Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

Ahh I'm so happy to see that we have a Cross Breeders topic here too! I haven't been on this version much, but I pretty much live on the international one lol.

I only have my foundie mare, but I want to sell them and get some crosses! I think I'll do a QH/Arab. default smiley :)

Well, any thoughts on this guy?
I'm a Connie breeder, but wanted to get their dressage up just a bit while keeping their jump, to maybe make them a little bit better at cross country than the quarters. Threw in a PSH to up the dressage, then a Hano to hold onto the jump and then back to a Connie to bring up the Stamina. Ended up surprised at how much stamina, dressage, and jump kind of leveled out. I've never had a horse leveled like that in three skills, is that a handicap?

Now I know, they weren't 100 blupped, but I wanted to whip one up to see what happened before spending a lot time on it. And I know you are saying I should throw a quarter in the mix, but even though a quarter has a tiny edge over a connie in cross country, the speed of the connie is more valuable to me than the gallop of a quarter. I'm just curious if that stamina deficiency is going to hold me back in cross country.

Hi, I'm wodering what would be the best horse to cross with a Hanoverian?
I'd really like to keep the good jumping skills. default smiley :)
Some people have told me to try it with a spanish horse, but I'm not so sure...
All suggestions are really appreciated!

Thanks guys,

Here's a working link for andhe7's horse: andhe7's horse

Siberia - Akhal-Teke, TB, QH, and *Shetland* might be good breeds? Shetlands have a top skill of jumping so that might be your best bet. The others just have it in their top 3. PSH could turn out nicely as well. The only way to really find out is by actually breeding it and seeing what it's like.

Yup, and sometimes it makes a pretty good cross.

Cross a Welsh Pony or Connemara Pony with an Arabian and you will have a nice little Arabic pony. That would make a lovely cross I think! lol

I just finally got my foundie shetland mare, Piper, BLUPped today, and I've bred her to a foundie Akhal-Teke stud. I'm hoping for a good X-country horse, maybe I'll breed it back to a shetland when it's older, or maybe a gypsy vanner? What do you guys think? I'll post a link when the foal's born.

I found that my AT/QH mixes had pretty even skills. I also have started throwing in Hanoverian just for fun. default smiley (lol)

I've got 2-3 cross-bred foals with 5 different breeds mixed in that i bred for fun. feel free to take a look default smiley :) there names are Dances With Devil, Topaz Dancer, and Rocket. Let me know what you think! and if anyone has a cross-bred stallion that i would be able to breed any of these fillies to once they're older.

hope that works, ^ if not just copy paste it into your search bar. This is Piper's Shetland x Akhal-Teke filly. Her name is Ellie, she has 73. 21 IBS and 351.98 gp before games, and she's also one of my fave colours, so I'm pretty happy with her default smiley :) She didn't gain as much stamina as I expected her to, but she also didn't lose as much jump as I thought she would, so it's all good.
Is anyone doing Pintaloosas? I'm thinking they would have pretty good gallop and speed for barrels, But I want to wait until I get my appys blupped..><

I was thinking of either doing Pintaloosas or Araappaloosas just to see what they would be like in barrels or x country, if anyone is already doing these crosses let me know?

Sorry, but I am a little angry at someone for deleting mine. I posted the excact same topic not long ago. I am going to post something where I am going to teach people to breed the best. To see this, look for: XBreeding: Learn to breed the best!

Duckynuck: The reason yours was removed was because it was in the wrong forum. This was also here for a while before you posted in Game Play. So there's really no reason to be angry at someone else for your own easy mistake. We're only human, we all make mistakes. default smiley (l)

Of course, I look forwards to seeing your successful crossbreeds down the road! I'm sure they'll be amazing. default smiley :)

In the meantime, I'm enjoying reading up on this-- maybe later on when I've bred and trained some really good horses I may one day try crossbreeding some of my french trotters. I love the Arabians and Appaloosa's in particular.

I've also attained a lovely thoroughbred, so maybe one day a Thoroughbred x French Trotter cross? That would make for a good speed stat, possibly dressage, as well as stamina, I think?

What would be a good cross with a Quarter horse?
By Retired breeder, 16th August 2011 03:00:22
I was reading about a breed called Georgian Grande (IRL) which seems to be a draft crossed with a saddlebred. I wonder how that would turn out here. Hmm...
