Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

Jockey - I think I will keep him... Now I have 8 crossbreds and a purebred waiting for a timer so they can be BLUPed. Either I need to sell the two horses I have for sale, or beg mom for more passes... default smiley xd
And it looks like the whole Mustang/TB thing will go well. I say keep breeding them, they look like a really good cross so far. default smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 12th September 2011 01:27:52
And good luck with your cross Jessie.D! Hopefully you get what you want.
By Retired breeder, 12th September 2011 22:39:32
@ Jockey, What about Thoroughtang?
By Retired breeder, 12th September 2011 23:44:41
That's what I've been naming my TB/Mustangs.
By Retired breeder, 13th September 2011 01:11:34
Hi guys!Im breeding Hano/>? so i you have an idea what breed plz tell me?default smiley ;)default smiley ;)
By Retired breeder, 13th September 2011 01:27:31
hannoxfrench
stamina 52
speed 68
dresasge 68
galloping 41
trotting 55
jumping 66

it looks pretty good, with its high skills in speed and dressage (wich most players train in first to blup and win comps) so it would be a great horse for compititions

Jessie:
Are you going to experiment one?
By Retired breeder, 13th September 2011 03:18:15
To thundercats: I would breed hanos, holsteiners. They have the same good skills, so it won't be too varied... You can check out my han times holsteiner crosses...
By Retired breeder, 13th September 2011 04:53:12
@ thundercats - I agree with horseriderjasmine. I find that breeding horses with the same/similar top three skills makes a really strong horse for competitions that the breed is already supposed to be good at. It does depend on the actual horse of course but in general. It does kind of depend on what you want though. If you want to increase trot and own all the trot comps (if it's hano dominant) then I would go with the Trotter x Hano Jessie.D suggested. Honestly, you won't know what you really want and what you're looking for until you try out several different crosses. You just have to keep breeding until you find a cross you really like and really grabs at you. Who knows, it may not even be a Hano cross when you find it. Or it could be a 3 or 4 way cross. I say look into some skills and try some stuff out. You can always sell the foals you aren't too fond of.

Sorry for the long response, I tend to ramble on when I try to help default smiley xd Hopefully it does help (anyone, not just thundercats) and it wasn't a waste of time for everyone.

@ jockey

ill be working with (Fri X French) and (TB x Akhal) for a while myself... im just looking for foundation horses to start off with, so i wont be going at this for a while... i could breed some french hannos... ive been thinking about it alot, they would make wonderfull horses for competing
By Retired breeder, 14th September 2011 16:05:08
Yes, I think they would. Good luck Jessie!

This is a pretty cool thread! I've been considering crossbreeding lately, and I've been tossing around the numbers. I've found a couple of crosses that look pretty interesting:

Arab x Friesian
Stamina: 70
Speed: 78
Dressage: 78
Gallop: 52
Trot: 41
Jump: 31

Spanish x Friesian
Stamina: 66
Speed: 70
Dressage: 90
Gallop: 42
Trot: 41
Jump: 41

Any thoughts on these?
By Retired breeder, 16th September 2011 01:43:35

*Correction* If anybody has any good pure arab horses to cover the TB mare i'm gonna get then PM me.
By Retired breeder, 24th September 2011 20:01:49
Okay, so if breed these two together when they're both fully BLUPed, what do you guys think the foal will be like?
A Perfect Day x Forest Fire
By Retired breeder, 24th September 2011 20:54:24
their stats are almost the same, it would be good in cross county (medium stamin and high jumping and dressage so youll be able to enter in low % compititons and come out with the advantage) it looks like a well rounded horse other then the trot
By Retired breeder, 24th September 2011 20:54:45
i mean the offspring will look like a well rounded horse ;p
By Retired breeder, 24th September 2011 21:59:33
Yeah. Just wanted to know if I should even try it. I think I will. Not like I can't sell the foal if I don't like it anyways.
Now that I think about, most of my favourite crosses get their wins in cross-country comps. I guess I like good cross-country horses default smiley xd
By Retired breeder, 27th September 2011 14:33:36
im looking for cross breed breeding partners - pm me for details about the breed.
By Retired breeder, 28th September 2011 02:05:24
Jessie: If you want to work on TB/Mustangs with me, I would be glad to have you!

Just an update. My little girl, Blue Ribbon, I am proud to say is 8 in Dressage out of the Mustangs! I am very happy on this outcome. I will definitely keep breeding the Thoroughtangs!default smiley (lol)
