Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

@ Eelantha,
I am breeding some jumper crosses. I have started with my mare Kisses, and bred her to PSH, Shetland and arabian stallions. feel free to check out the results. Kisses has skills relatively close to Timothy's, so it might give you an idea about the outcome, though he has a much higher blup! Also, I am trying theories out with Cupcake1 for jumper crosses, so you can check her horses out as well for ideas!default smiley :)
ps. sorry, i don't know how to post a link, i know that would have made it easier

I have a question about training and breeding. Say I try to blup a horse, so I train in only the top three skill and nothing else. Does the fact that 3 skills have not been worked transfer to the foal? I mean, does the foal have a lesser chance of inheriting skills for those traits? I am cross breeding, so the top 3 skills are usually different between parents. I guess my point is, since I am focusing on jumping skills, should I train both parents in jumping even if it isn't a top skill, or does it not matter. I hope I described my question ok...

ive been thinking of starting a cross breeding program as well as my purebread program, but im having dificulties getting the breeds i want from the sales.

i wanna know from people with experiance if they have easyer times breeding horses that are a 50 50 cross or ones that have multiple breeds in them. im personaly looking into breeding an all purpose horse good in almost any type of compitition but im having issues with choosing breeds or choosing how to go about the breeding itself

if you think you cant help me out just message me

happy gaming

@ Jessie.D
If you want an all purpose comp horse, then I suggest a Thoroughbred x Akhal-Teke cross. I just did the experience and the genetics and skills of my foal Eska are almost all similar.

Crosses with multiple breeds take time to BLUP and train, but the effort is worth it's time in the end. The crossbreeding depends on what kind of horses you want to mix together, and for what purpose you want it to accomplish. default smiley ;)

My QH/Akhal is only 6 wins away from being fully BLUPed (except for the whole 10 years old thing, he's only 9 years 2 or 4 months right now). I love my boy <3
If anyone else is going to try this cross out, mine is doing really well in X-Country events and the only skill bonus BMI he has is a Lunge and I don't think it's having a huge impact on his placing in x-country.
I'm going to breed him to a Connemara I think, AT, QH and Connie all have the same top 3 skills so I think I'll just keep breeing these 3 breeds together and see what I get in the end. Hopefully a pretty killer X-Country horse.

That is awesome Meg!Maybe I should just retire from CC.Did you get the Lunge from that HOP I opened?
By Retired breeder, 30th May 2011 00:53:28
That would leave me by myself :O
Yep

He only needs 4 more now! YAY! This will be the youngest I've ever had all the requirements for a horse to be 100 BLUP (other than the 10 years old part). I am so proud of myself. default smiley ^)

By Retired breeder, 11th June 2011 05:08:40
Im doing a Paint Arabian! I chose those 2 to bed fast! ;D There foal came "IfLook'sCouldKill"

I Think I May Start Breeding Connemaras With Shetlands... HMM! Tough Decision!default smiley (lol)
By Retired breeder, 15th June 2011 03:24:10
I just bred a Connie/QH/AT (50/25/25) and I think he came out pretty good. I think I'll keep continuing a line like that, just those 3 breeds and see what happens. They have the same top 3 skills so I don't think it'll be that bad. :P
If you guys wanna see him, he's here: Manny the Magnificent Sorry about the unimaginative name, I'm tired and stressed from exams... I'll probably change it later if anyone has any suggestions?? XD
By Retired breeder, 17th June 2011 23:34:22
umm can i breed haruhi (pure breed spanish horse) with one of yours...anyone please?
By Retired breeder, 17th June 2011 23:57:20
icesky - the foal will be better if you get her to 100 BLUP before breeding but if you really want a cover, I have 3 stallions that could send one.
By Retired breeder, 18th June 2011 00:01:07
i just want another foal, another half breed. so thank you!default smiley (l)
i started Appys crossed with other breeds. it's quite fun. it would take me lots of patience with i sometimes don't have to bring a horse to 100 BLUP so i try to at least get it to positive
