Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

Nice work, AthenaMyth. default smiley (y)

I would recommend you choose your stud very, very carefully because the mare you have just blupped has 2 "level skills" (gallop and jump are both at 31.25) and also she has 2 other skills that are really close together (stamina 66.39 and speed 68.42)

Was she a bit difficult to get wins on? I would expect so. default smiley ;) You should find a stud that has a big difference between his gallop and jump, as well as between his stamina and speed.
Actually, she was really easy to get wins.

I was debating between one of my PSH crosses like Romano, PB French Trotter or Threeway Cross I was originally going with Mathias, but I hadn't looked too closely at his skills yet.

AthenaMyth,

If you use Romano, the foal will be something like this:
Stamina: 65.595
Speed: 69.705
Dressage: 78.77
Gallop: 31.335
Trot: 65.985
Jumping: 41.905
GP: 353.295

Prussia gives you a foal like this:
64.34
69.355
72.32
25.695
83.365
36.705
351.78

Mathias gives you a foal like this:
66.03
69.095
78.64
31.31
71.2
36.575
352.85

default smiley (y) Now you can choose. I love the predictor my hubby made me in Excel ...

Any help on BLUPing a FresianXPSH horse?
Awesome Cheiron.. I shall have to find one of those on google. I've heard there are a few.. Thanks so much.default smiley (y)

Gianna- Pretty much the same as you blup anyother? You could just change what you usually do with Arabians to fill in the correct skills for a Warlander. I don't know what you usually do for blupping.

Hmmm I'll try it... I think what I normally do might work, actually...
By Retired breeder, 18th February 2011 03:09:04
AthenaMyth: Nice going! Fresians are just the same as any other horse, just different skills.

Hi everyone. I just started breeding crossbreeds. My team name is ۵⊰Ƀϵʃʃӑ Ͼɍʊʗϵ⊱۵. It means Beautiful Cross in Italian. Anyway's that isn't the point. Well I just bred, blupped, and skilled a mare of HanoXPSH breed and I was wondering what breed I should breed her with. Take a look at Florella(the mare):

Florella

Thanks.

I would like to start crossbreeding any tips?
By Retired breeder, 20th February 2011 01:50:22
JasperLover: If you just want a basic all-around, I would suggest French Trotter. If you want a jumper, maybe just strengthen the Hano side?

Ranch101: Just read all the comments!

Sorry, I don't. But I am sure there are some already offered, and if not Gianna7459 breeds them, I think.

Yup, that's rightdefault smiley :) Oh, and does anyone have a good stud? I'm BLUPing my 85% PSH and 25% Hano, I think, mare. She has 371.89GP, and I'm looking for a stud higher than thatdefault smiley ;)
By Retired breeder, 26th February 2011 01:26:53
Oh, wait, 75% PSH and 25% Hno
Yay! I found some other cross breeders! Just out of curiosity, has anyone bred a horse with all breeds in it? Also has anyone found a good combination of dressage/show jumper skills? I am working with akhal-teke pure, akhel/friesian. Do you think crossing my Akhel/friesian with a Hano would be a decent start? Once she's trained anyway.

Hanos have fairly low dressage - it's a problem.
By Retired breeder, 26th February 2011 16:32:14
I found that when I crossed my hano/AT cross with a Friesin, it produced a pretty good Dressage horse
By Retired breeder, 26th February 2011 20:38:57
I'm trying a PSH/Arabian mare to train. She came out ok I think, even though I bred an untrained mare to get her (I got exciteddefault smiley :) and couldn't wait).I would like to cross her with an AT to see if I can get a good dressage horse. I just crossed a PSH with a Hano to see if I can get decent dressage and jumping skills in the foal. I'll see when it's born!! I have seen some ppl cross in Shetlands. How well do jumpers come out when you do that, anyone have a guess??
By Retired breeder, 26th February 2011 22:12:39
My PSH/hano colt was just born! He came out with the strongest skills in dressage and Jumping. I wasn't expecting that, I was just crossing for fun, but now I think I might have a good stallion out of himdefault smiley :-))
By Retired breeder, 26th February 2011 22:54:35
Cupcake1 - This was my AT/Shetland cross. Her top genetics are jump and dressage. I haven't gotten very far with her (not a superhero BLUPer like some people, takes me a very long time) but I can tell you how well she does in jump comps after I get her to that age. Could take awhile seeing as I'm out of aging points...

This guy is my latest cross. I think him and his brother should do pretty well in cross-country but we'll see. What should I breed him with after I've got him BLUPed?
