Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

If you want him forcross country, I say breed him to a hano. It'l be easier to blup the foal if he has high jumping skills. It will help out lots with CC comps. And im dabbling with AT/Hanos. Once I bred my mare to Cheiron studs(Ive got a deal), then get a nice foal, Ill let you knowdefault smiley :)

What hiddenmeadowfarms said, but stamina is also important in cross-country competitions.

So, if you breed a Teke in there, it would workdefault smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 4th March 2011 23:19:47
So maybe to a AT/Hano cross?
By Retired breeder, 4th March 2011 23:21:54
But one with more hano than teke cuz he's already 50% teke. Maybe a 75% hano 25% teke would be okay? I guess I won't really know until I breed him to one.
If anyone thinks they'll have a 75% hano mare or filly at some point could you tell me?
By Retired breeder, 5th March 2011 00:13:45
I will have a couple soon. Ihave a 50% Hano mare that I am going to breed with a couple of Chierons Hanos, so I will have some fillys soondefault smiley :)

In noticed also, 0GP projects are really popular right now too...

Ya, they really aredefault smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 6th March 2011 03:28:58
Let me know how they turn out hiddenmeadows.
It it getting really popular isn't it? I think I might give it a try later on but right now I'm happy with BLUPing my horses and trying for a higher GP.

Grr, another boy! When am I gonna get a filly?! If only I had some passes for a bolt... But what do you guys think?
By Retired breeder, 6th March 2011 03:45:58
Megooni- Umm, I'd sell him. Alot of highest GP is about equal. The only thing that really excells is Dressage, so it wont be a great horse for comps... Sorrydefault smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 6th March 2011 03:54:23
He'd do fine in comps because it's nothing is exactly the same but I probably will end up selling him after games though because I won't have any time to BLUP him and he'd just go to waste. Just an experiment to see how that cross would turn out anyways default smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 6th March 2011 04:53:16
Hey, does anyone have a cross breed horse under 347.5 GP? As ~*Horse Breeder*~ said, the 0GP projects are really popular, and I am in the middle of one. default smiley (lol) I gave up on taking asia666 off the Shetland Elite GP. default smiley (lol)
By Retired breeder, 6th March 2011 23:33:24
Haha...Um, nope. Not right now
By Retired breeder, 7th March 2011 01:34:20
OK, darn. While, thanks for answering!

Yeah, I agree with hiddenmeadowfarms about him not being great for competitions. In another case though, if you worked on breeding enough to make them all very high, it would be okay. That would take a lot of time and effort, though.
Finally finished gaming all my foals..>< Including This Beauty and This Guy

I'm really pleased with Mattie. ^^ I think I breed her back to a FT for stronger trot and keep alternating between the three until I get dressage and trot where I want.

Charleston was a test cross actually, but I'm -really- happy with his speed, gallop and trot. I may redo the cross with higher GP'd horses and have a sideline of high tb trotters and high FT gallopers default smiley xd

In case some of you didn't know, you can't by breeding a crossbreed to any specific purebreed, get its foals to become 100% purebreed again-it will stop at 99%...

~*Horse Breeder*~
Thanks ~*Horse Breeder*~ That had been mentioned before.default smiley :)

When I said tb trotters and FT gallopers, I meant that was the dominant breed. So they would be included in the breed only comps, but they aren't PB and therefore have higher gallop or trot then the Purebreds.

Hello everybody.
Just wanted to say that I think I'll be trying my hand out at crossbreeding. I was thinking of going with Teke's & Friesian crosses. Any thoughts? I'd be glad for any tips as well.
By Retired breeder, 13th March 2011 00:40:50
Working on my mare, A Dusty Conclusion (Dusty), and by the way, does anyone know a quarter horse cross that excells in Barrel comps? Thanks!

Alassiel - My foals Star Light and Star Bright (they're twins so I won't post both) are Teke/Friesian crosses. Might be more helpful if they were BLUPed and bolded but the foals would look something like this in terms of genetics.
Hello other Cross breeders,

I breed nothing but Friesteke's when I saw fiesians and Tekes I had to.
Megooni- there are various stages of friesteke's on my page from half and half to higher teke and friesian. A 58/42 Teke higher I found most sucessful on US Howrse expermenting with it here. This makes a high stam./ Dressage with speed as your third making a nice comp howrse.

I've always bred purebred horses; Friesians & Arabs usually. I'm interested in Crossing a Friesian with another breed to bring up the Jumping but I also want speed and Dressage to be the next highest. What breed should I cross a Friesian with?
By Retired breeder, 16th March 2011 22:36:29
Thanks for all the feedback, it sounds like Friesians & Tekes are a good way to go. default smiley (y)

Hi cross breeders! I just bought a filly with all three skills for jumping relatively equal (interesting!). Does anyone have any suggestions for breeding her without loosing that equality? Thanksdefault smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 18th March 2011 13:37:27
Arg!!! I bred my mare 5 times, and have yet to get a filly!! I sell them, though, I don't have the patience to BLUP all of them!default smiley :)
