[info/FT] Cross Breeders
By Retired breeder, 16th July 2012 03:49:18
Irochy- Paint/fri is an all right cross. Nothing too exciting in my opinion. If you check out my "Cross the Line" tab, This is a Warning is a paint/fri.
As for the 4-way cross, I'm planning on doing one once I have some horses blupped. Paint/fri/teke/TB. It'll be interesting. Also... Still trying to find that perfect dressage cross . That one's tricky. Oh, and a good cross for reining comps is QH/TB. If anyone is interested in my crosses... check out the horses under my "Oh So Experimental" (random messing around), "Classy Crosses" (good crosses) and "Star Crossed" (high-quality crosses) affixes. Any suggestions would be nice, or maybe a partner... I hav a breeding program in mind! |

I'm focused on "Cross Country" horses. I've been hoping to try out and mix different breeds to produce the best kind. Like breeding a Friesian (that obviously excels in dressage) and mixing it up with other breeds that excel in stamina and jumping. You get it. And ofcourse, add in the Quarter and Alkah-Teke horses.
I'm also interested in having a breeding partner if possible. However, I'm still experimenting about this idea. Raintalon24 |
GrapeTheArmadillo, I'm trying for the elusive dressage cross too Glad to hear someone else is enjoying hitting their head against the wall on that one.
So, has anyone found a cross that results in low stamina and jumping? I had thought I created one a while ago...but I have fields of foals to search through and I can't find it I could also be dreaming. If someone knows of a cross(s) to do this, please post! In the meantime I shall look at my foals again...ugg so many! I've managed to basically equalize all skills, but stamina and jumping seem to be getting in the way lately... at least while still maintaining a decent gallop. Maintaining trot, I managed that, but gallop keeps running away on me Sigh... and then combining the two.

I would be tempted to think that the new breeds would help in crossing, but lately, they seem to have high stamina ^.^;
I'll say, however, that the ultimate dressage cross will have friesian in it! Or will it? Maybe PSH. Or Nokota. Ohoho. Nokota/Fri? Throw some TB in there? That's an idea. I'll try that perhaps. Maybe tomorrow. |
Definitely friesian will be included! I've been working with a base of friesian, TB, and FT, sometimes Fjord or GV. Then I added in Nokota, but Knabstruppers came along and I found they gave better crosses (for me anywhoo, a different base to work with might need another breed). The new Walker is showing some promise in being crossed as well, but it might take another generation to see it.
Man, I will celebrate big time when I find that dressage horse. Lately I've just been getting horses geared for western events, not quite what I am looking for

Oh, I know! Western crosses are so easy to make ! I have a nice cross that I'll be breeding that has stamina, speed and dressage all even with gallop coming in close as a 4th skill. I also have a good reining cross. I think, though, that even though there are newer breeds that are good in certain comps, that it would be fun to make a cross that's good at that as well. For example make a trail class cross or a western pleasure cross, since the breeds that are good at those are more recent. Kind of a "now imagine we didn't have those breeds" type thing.
I'll keep working at the dressage cross, though. Imagine if someone already found it and just isn't sharing! Ugh! |

I enjoy crossbreeding to see if I can get a horse that will do very well in competitions. Anybody have a suggestion on what would make a real comp monster for Showjumping?

Well I posted re Anglo Arabs to see if anyone was interested but got no replies. I now have 2 people interested in helping me but I'm not sure how to progress.
I start with breeding an Arab mare to a TB stud = foal AA1 Then I breed another Arab mare to a TB stud with a higher GP = foal AA2 Then I breed AA1 to AA2 Then I'm stuck on what to do next. Any help would be appreciated. Please PM as I don't always remember to check the message boards. Thanks DQ |

I have a Q: If you breed a donkey to a horse, will the foal be a mule?
|
By Retired breeder, 22nd September 2012 13:52:20
There are no hybrids on Howrse. I.e. mules or alicorns.

Hello i kinda have a tip if you bred a horse that ended up being horribly useless, you can search peoples pages for people that just got 30 days and they might buyt hem because they dont know much about the serious breeding or to safe haven rescuers

I am breeding more pure horses, and ones that are easy to train for younger players. The most amount of breeds I stuck in there is about 5-10. I love getting new foals!
I used to have a breeding arm called Cross Cuties, but I used it for Spots N' Dots. |

I mannaged to cross breed the perfect combination and create a new breed of horse that has equal (very very close to equal) potential in every single skill. It does not excell in anything, it excells in everything I plan on furthering this line as the Thorough Walkers breed!

I'm trying to breed random starred cross breed horses. The cross breed foal always has a purebred parents. I think my best horse is a 4 star Quarter Horse colt.
