Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

i have a question how do u cross breed??? default smiley (o)
By Retired breeder, 25th March 2012 12:40:02
123mad123, you cross breed by getting 2 parents that are both purebred, breed them and the foal will be a crossbreed
By Retired breeder, 25th March 2012 16:54:00
I'm working on Sport Ponies, they are Welsh x Holsteiner Eventing Ponies. <3
By Retired breeder, 29th March 2012 16:02:38
I'm going to focus on UK Ponies.
So probably like Shetland x Thoroughbred (to improve Gallop), Connie x Holsteiner (to improve Jumping, and Welsh x Hano (to improve Jumping).
My goal will to have them be GP winners. ♥

I've been doing all sorts of random crossbreeds lately, and some of them have actually turned out nicely! If anybody is curious, it's all under my affix Oh So Experimental. My more recent ones do seem to be more interesting.

Or, if anybody is really curious...
Flower Dancer, TB/FT
Silver Shoes, TB/Hano
Blushing Lady Paint/TB
Simply Inspired. 25/25 Teke/PSH, 50 Hano
Spring In The Air, Teke/Hano
Darling Dancer, QH/PSH
She Has The Looks, 12,5/12,5 Teke/Hano, 25 Friesian, 50 Paint
Fit for Royalty, QH/TB
On the Horizon, 25/25 Teke/PSH, 50 QH

Hope those all worked, and I hope someone is inspired by my experimentation! I also have more foals on the way. Some of these crosses could be pretty promising...

I'm BLUPing up my QH mare but I still haven't decided what I might want to breed her to, possibly a paint
By Retired breeder, 12th April 2012 20:22:41
I am doing some paintXFresians, FresiansXTeke's and maybe Teke'sXPaints all in the Revolution tab
By Retired breeder, 12th April 2012 21:29:02
Hey, can someone look at my mare "Inspiration" in my "Revolution" tab... I like her (BULPing as we speak). I want to know what I should put her too... I hoped someone would have a nice FresianXpaint stud with at least 6 stars, but thats not the case default smiley :(

If anyone wants to be a breeding partner with me, let me know default smiley :)

Covers are only 1000e so please pm me if you are interested default smiley :)
Just wondering if anyone has cross bred something, for example QH and Paint, then bred it to a QH and the foals to QH's over and over an over. My real question is can a cross bred ever become 100% purebred again? If it can how many generations does it take?
Thanks! Reiner

No Reiner27 a crossbred can never be bred pure again, the closest you can get is to 99% one bred and 1% the other.

I have a bunch of crosses now... 16 of them sitting in one of my tabs. I think, perhaps, I had a bit too much fun? I don't know what t do with them all now!

I have been using what I've learned, though, and making some good crosses (recently, a 6* friseteke!) as well as keeping my eye out for them in sales and coverings. I just can't help myself, every time I see a good cross I think, "I want ittttt!" My reserve is now glaring angrily at me.

I've currently got two newborn Hano/Thoroughbred foals with 8 stars and 550 GP! I'll be continuing down this path and hopefully getting 600.00 GP foals soon. c:

I want to do Welsh crosses. default smiley :d
By Retired breeder, 27th May 2012 02:13:19
Has anyone ever incorporated all the breeds into one horse? Is that even possible?
It'd be so cool...default smiley :o
By Retired breeder, 27th May 2012 07:53:38
chili - Only 5 breeds will show up in the horses genetics. However if someone really wanted to do it and looked back through all of the breeding history then yes it is possible but yet a horse will only show the 5 breeds that it has the most of. I do however have a 5 way cross of all 5 of the pony breeds on the U.S. version.

Arabian x Shagya arab(sorry if thats like, the same type of horse!) also,I have a cross bredding tip: always try and find a stallion that you want the breed to be with a HIGHER bulp than your mare
By Retired breeder, 31st May 2012 19:40:40
Personally I only breed 100 Blupped horses. Unless of course I breed one of my mares to pass an objective.
By Retired breeder, 1st June 2012 20:19:22
Princess Cadence: I am breeding Shagyas and Arabians too with bouhou1! We ARE crossbreeding them but ONLY with each other.
