Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

I have a question, please. I've been trying to breed two horses - a 50/50 Paint/Hano female and a 50/50 Mustang/Thoroughbred. I thought the offspring would be random between these four breeds (I'm actually trying to get a Mustang) but so far all six of the foals have been Thoroughbred. Do I just need to keep trying, or is there some reason I don't understand that will always make the foals be Thoroughbred?
Thank you!

the femare: Trillian

50% Paint
50% Hanoverian

the male: Wyatt

50% Mustang
50% Throughbred

If you want the outcoming foal to be Mustang you would have to go back and breed the purebred mustang MALE to the thoroughbred FEMALE ... then you would have to make the colt a MALE and use him to stud the other crossed female.
I know this is confusing but one rule about cross breeding here..... the colt ALWAYS looks like the sire (male/stud). There are NO exceptions to this rule, so now you know that you can get whatever cross you want to look like whatever horse you like best default smiley :)

I just started on Howrse. Picked this server cuz Im Canadian. I started out with an arabian female and finished the tutorial with her, a male a baby and then I got a quarterhorse (f) for doin one of the last tutorial objectives.
Is it possible to cross my male arabian with my female quarterhorse? If so, is that a decent cross? I was gonna stick to just arabians but I kinda like the idea of cross breeding and would like more horses to work since otherwise my horses only take me like 2 minutes a day default smiley (lol)

You can cross any horse, with any horse here on Howrse! default smiley (lol)
What you choose to cross is not a matter of good or bad - just preference! default smiley (b)

Ok, chose to go with arabian x knabstruppers. I will be busy with my UNICORNS too.
Uhm.... does anyone have a good or proper name for the arabian x knab crossbreed?
By Retired breeder, 2nd December 2012 00:54:40
@picasso Knabrian. I do Knab x Arab. I got to 13 stars on them!
By Retired breeder, 2nd December 2012 02:15:44
well I only have 2 stars on mine but I used my foundie arabian and things are gonna go slowly. I have 13 aging pts and should probably use them on my unicorns when I feel ambitious. I know nothing about the "training" of each breed in this game so I have to figure it out as I go along!!
How do you improve the stars? Genetic Potential is easy to figure out - improves as long as your horse is "blupped" ? I could use some pointers on a good training schedule for the knab x arab if got any tips default smiley ;)

Just keep training and breeding and training and breeding.default smiley ;)

and a cross of curly x ahkal-teke for the sheer fun of it! default smiley (lol) I am only competing with myself now anyway, dont expect to make the grand prix with any of my horses in the next millenium, but I cant afford to keep up with the whole GP rat race. Im just here to enjoy the game for myself.

Can anyone help?
By Retired breeder, 13th December 2012 20:45:20
I dont know, it looks good to me except for the outside bracket .... who knows, these things are picky. Sorry it isnt working for you, and Im sorry this topic is so darn dead now default smiley :(
By Retired breeder, 14th December 2012 16:14:09
I've started inbreeding Thoroughbreds and Akhal Tekes.
By Retired breeder, 14th December 2012 16:16:02
And... It's because you have to click your name and go from the outside into your horse's profiles (so that you can't take care of them as if you were a vistor) and the copy those links.

Hey guys I'm going for something crazy but I'm going to create a horse with a little bit of every breed. I do not know if it is possible but I will tell you when I finish. If you have any 50% one breed and 50% another breed horses please PM me if you would like to contribute to this project.

thanks
