Here we go! A cross breed thread!

The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful.

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales of your horses, or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

This is also *not* a chat topic...Please keep that in mind. If it turns into one, I will be forced to close it down.

Thanks everyone

Random breeding is not very good. Try actually looking at what you know about the horses.
I meant I try different crosses to see what I get. Before choosing the parents I decide what I wanna the foal to be, it's GP(Like if I want the GP to be high in jumping or dressage) and then choose the parents!

I just got my pegasus from objectives and she is fully trained Arabian. I would like to breed her right away but would like to know if I breed pegasus with pegasus, do I get pegasus? And what everyone thinks a good X with Arabian might be for competition sake....
Kabbof. Her foal will be normal even if she's a peggie

I just bred a mustang and paint together... debating if I'll continue this or not :P If any of you want to take a look at Ballidan feel free and tell me what you think in terms of his skill and potential! This is just because I breed both types of horses so I decided to test my luck.

And in my opinion, random crossbreeding is a cool idea! I mean, you don't really have anything to lose! If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, back to the drawing board default smiley :d

I just breed a starred Quarter horse mare of mine with my Gypsy Stallion and the results is nice looking filly. Her name is Story Teller and she's on the sixth page of my horses if anyone wants to look.

I want to try to make a horse that is like a Tennessee Walking Horse, in memory of my horse Athena, who is now my avatar. Any one have any ideas? Or if you have a paint that looks like her I can breed?
By Retired breeder, 21st November 2011 01:49:55
would a french trotter, paint/appy work?
By Retired breeder, 24th November 2011 04:21:41
I was wondering what a 1/4 Akhal-Teke, 3/4 Thoroughbred would do in Show. would that be good?
@Jesse.D, Never tried it. Not saying it wouldn't work. Would make a good barrel racing horse.

What's a good cross for showing jumping/trotting? Those seem to be the hardest skills to achieve for lots of breeds... I'm thinking of breeding a paint and a friesian together for the GP and inborn skills and then go from there default smiley (y)

I think a great combination of breeds is Quarter Horse cross Arabian. But the foals always turn out looking like arabians. What do you think? Should I keep breeding Quarabs?
By Retired breeder, 26th November 2011 04:44:44
You can. I am trying to get my hands on a thoroughbred mare of decent price to breed with my stallion Hawk Eye. Take a look at him. I would breed him to Athena's Whisper but I need a better BLUP then that. Should I keep him purebred line, or try to cross breed a thoroughbred to him?
By Retired breeder, 26th November 2011 14:18:15
my pure akhals are fantastic at jumming... but for a cross i would look for a horse that has high speed and dressage and then medium jumping... probably a friesian mustang or something like that... pretty much any horses that have other 90 in dresage and cross it with a horse with 90 speed
By Retired breeder, 29th November 2011 00:17:40
I have a horse named.. ah can't remember, but he is a Frisian. I can offer you him?
I have so many horses, can't keep track.
I bred a Fjord to a Hanoverian. What do you guys think of that combo?
By Retired breeder, 29th November 2011 03:29:44
I am thinking of starting a laid back cross breeding thingie majig. What breed would be a good match for Akhal Teke? default smiley ;)
By Retired breeder, 1st December 2011 01:20:41
