[info/FT] Cross Breeders
By Retired breeder, 23rd October 2011 23:01:57
The links you posted only send me to "My Horses" you gotta go to your page and find the horse then copy the link.
Making one for each cross would be hard but they could have people submit coats for the crosses. and if the 2 horses you breed together are different breeds then the foal will be the fathers breed(but the father has to be purebred other wise if he has enve 0.1 of the mares breed then the foal will be the mothers breed.. |

it would be nice to have ACTUAl cross breed horses... example breeding a paint and a QH would make a paint automaticly (since in breeding for compititions it does work like this, the horse just has to have a spot on its body the size of a quarter, if it dosnt, its considerd breeding stalk)
but unfortunatly it itsnt like this... but we can always use affixes to say what breed they realy are (with 50/50 crossing) |

Yeah! Exactly, I think it would be neat. And the idea of submitting coats is good! Howrse has a lot of combinations of breeds but if people submitted ideas it'd be a lot easier. I think I may suggest it, including ideas from @DressageGal and @Jessie.D if you guys don't mind, I can credit your ideas I don't know if it'll considered, but I think it would make crossbreeding a whole lot more fun!

it would
the other thing is, if they were to do this idea, they would have to make new stats for every one of their games, but it would be smart of them to try it on a not so big version of the game such as the Canadian version so the change wouldnt be as dificult. it would be like a test run there is realy only a few "purebread" horses that can come from crossing different breads but it would make the game more interesting heres hoping |
By Retired breeder, 24th October 2011 03:43:55
Yes! Very true, some breeds can create purebreds. And the Canadian version would be a perfect test run

so what is your goals in cross breeding on howrse? just for fun or do you breed them for better compeaters?
|
By Retired breeder, 25th October 2011 02:24:01
Actually, I haven't crossbred anything yet! But if we get some interesting coat combinations I might be interested I'd probably cross breed for fun, and if it makes better competitors, then I'll be lucky!

I have a passion for gaited horses. My real horse is a Purvian Paso/ Tennessee Walker. Though, You can't find any of them in Howrse! My pure bred Tennessee Walker mare (real) got put down on the 22nd. I intend to breed a horse like her in here. In her memory. I think I'll breed a Wesh/paint to another paint and hope for the best, or maybe that to a gaited horse here... Do any of you have a suggestion?
My profile pick is of my deceased mare. |
By Retired breeder, 25th October 2011 21:10:01
Well you could always send in a suggestion to the howrse staff to try and get some more gaited horses on the game

I've just started cross breeding paints and appaloosa, I have gotten some beautiful coats but they are still to young for competition so will wait and see.

Hi, I'd like to know what i can breed my mare Welsh to, I'm kinda new at this so I'm not quite sure :s
|
By Retired breeder, 31st October 2011 01:10:46
well one way to look at it ikb is what do you want out of this crossbreed. do you want even skills, skills fixed to two main areas or usable in specific compititions? so on so forth ^.^

Yes, and experimentation is best! I say just go for breeding 2 horses you think may have some good outcomes, and see what you end up preferring afterwards.

I've stopped breeding while I try to either sell or BLUP what I have. Everything is through games but I really don't want to try BLUPing without timers... And I can't get the Toadstools I need for the C Timer potion! Well, probably having a barn sale soon *wink wink*
A Perfect Day is turning out okay though. Not as well as I had hoped but not bad. Thinking I'll breed him to a good Dressage cross. Fri x Holstiener maybe? Would go Fri x PSH but I want to bump up Jump a little but too if possible. I'm really not sure though. But if anyone wants to start BLUPing a filly like that sometime soon... |

Well I started here 4 days ago with Quarterhorse, invited my son the next day and he chose Friesians. I now have 4 horses (my free trained one is a Friesian) so it is gonna take me a long while to get going.
this wont be for a long while, not till the BLUP is into the positives (hopefully well into) I would love some chums that are also interested in trying crossbreeds as my son seems to want to stick with Friesians for now |
By Retired breeder, 3rd November 2011 00:33:23
In the real world, Friesians are super expensive, so your son has good taste!!! I could offer you my Welsh male? I wonder how that would go. Want to try it?

Do horses ever get their father's structure and mother's coat?
|
By Retired breeder, 3rd November 2011 03:55:18
it depends on the breed. the horse will always look like the father when a cross breed (or whatever it has the most blood of) and the coat will be decided acordingly since colours are decided by breed and by % of colours comon for that breed
|
By Retired breeder, 3rd November 2011 04:08:21
horselover - sometimes, but it's just coincidence, not genetics. It gets the father's build anyways (in a 50/50 cross) and the colour if totally random from those available for that breed. ...pretty much what Jessie said

Running Wild has 4 years to get 8 wins and finish up boling his 3 skills which aren't that far from being bolded. a few comps and some rides and we're good to go! Then he'll be 100 BLUP and anyone interested can have a moderately cheap cover. You know, if anyone wants to breed with a 50/50 Hano x QH stallion. Hopefully I'll have time to get him finished by the end of next week at the latest. Then I can breed again and have *more* foals I can't train
