[info/FT] Cross Breeders
Oh dear. Maybe I'll post some screenshots of the horses in it.
For the moment, I'm trying to raise the GP - here, it's 3900, while on the International server it's nearing 10000. So yeah, we're behind in the GP race. Recently bred a Friesian/TB filly who has decent skills and not a horribly bad GP either, so I'm curious to see what she'll turn out like.
|
Here's Berry Berry Happy, a TB/Paso filly I bred on the International server.
I've also got a QH/TB cross coming - don't have an ultrasound yet, but I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for a nice filly.

Nice cross- that GP! And the skills are all pretty balanced, too.
Sounds like you use Thoroughbreds a lot- any particular reason? I've been using a lot of Friesian, but the skillsets haven't been the most versatile. |
Mostly because my crossbreeding program started with a purebred TB mare named Faster Than Light, or more accurately with her daughter Dashing Light. Bred Dash to a Highland stallion when they first came out and got a nice filly I named Light Up the Sky. Lead to Desert Sands Crosses, with nearly forty horses under the affix and all bred by yours truly.
So, it was basically sentimentality and the fact that TBs got me started. Plus, Friesians had the highest GP I could find in covers and I didn't really want a purebred foal when I was specifically breeding crossbreds!
|
Hm, this filly shows potential for both her and her dam. May try another Friesian/Akhal-Teke cross in the future!

Very happy with my latest cross. Top of the Curly skill rankings today.
|
Nice cross!
Here's my Friesian/Quarter Horse cross~ Edge of the Sky. Just need to finish bolding dressage and she'll (hopefully) be totally blupped! Yay!

Oops. Wrong link. >.<
This one should work. . .

I found that
Nokota 50.0% Thoroughbred 25.0% Friesian 21.9% Canadian horse 3.1% Has a mostly even GP level, every skill is in the 500s except gallop which is in the 400s and dressage which is in 800s. That means the GP of any foals born to this cross will be mostly defined by the the other (likely purebred) parent. At least that's what I've found. |
How would you breed a foal with that breed percentage, though?
|
Burn it Down. I can't believe he's just one away from having 20 wins!!! And his training isn't completed, his specialty isn't the one it should be (mistake on my part), and he's 5y10m! Wow! I am going to have so much fun with him!
|
So Burn it Down is fully blupped. . . <edit by mod>
Anyways! A quartet of foals I've bred recently~ * Snowfire This girl was a bit of an experiment - crossing my newly fully blupped stallion with my (at the time) almost-finished-blupping mare. * Jumping Junebug Wanted a Thoroughbred colt to blup, but got her instead! Not complaining, though. * In Perfect Harmony My second attempt at getting a TB colt, which didn't work because the stallion I chose wasn't purebred. Oh well. * Conquering the Edge Third time's. . . not the charm. Still, happy with her and she's got the highest GP out of the four!

I recently bred this little guy that I'm particularly proud of
French Toast has every skill in the 350-500 range which I'm super happy about. I've been trying to equalize my mixed breeds as much a possible. |

Any suggestions for crossing with a hannoverian?
|

Once they have enough Blup, I plan on breeding my stallion, which is:
50% Shetland 25% Friesian 12.5% Quarter Horse 12.5% Arabian Horse with my mare, which is: 75% Friesian 25% Thoroughbred ... ... ...The foal's ancestry is sure going to be complicated. |

Has anyone tried breeding a cross who's specialty would be dressage? I'm thinking of giving it a try, based on the gp spread in the directories I think the best bet is thoroughbred/icelandic. Anyone have any suggestions?
|
Kensington is a Hano crossbred with Friesian, Arabian, and Quarter Horse blood. Check her out - might help, depending on what you're looking for. Her dam's skill set is for cutting comps, fyi.
|
Purebred Spanish Horses have the skill set for cutting comps from what I can see on their directories page, but dressage is their highest skill apparently.

Sorry, I meant that their preferred comp would be dressage. Did not word that very well.
|
I figured that's what you meant, but I couldn't really find a breed who naturally had the necessary skill set for dressage comps.
|
Nokota and Knabstruper are both good at Dressage

This is my latest mix Wayward Daughter, I'd like to keep the Skills as even as possible, any hints on what I should breed her with? Might have to do some backwards breeding between my crosses...

What are the best to cross with frisians?
|
ponygirl4444: It depends on what you're looking for. Better skills? A certain skill set for a certain comp?
Lord Felwinter. This little guy and his twin were just born today. I'm gonna have fun with him!
