Breeding time for Inborn Skills

Hello!

I have played here for a while and on the International server, and after checking the breeding manuals and trying to search through the Help I can't quite find anything with an answer to a very semantic question about breeding.

When breeding Drafts or Donkeys (or any others with only three available coverings/breedings), I try to wait until the last possible moment to breed to ensure they are as high skilled as possible for inborn skills in their offspring.

With that in mind, I'm also aware that once a horse turns 25, their health starts to deteriorate, and their skills start to decrease.

My specific question is: are inborn skills determined by the parents' skills at the moment of the covering, or at the moment of birth?
So, for example, does it make more sense to schedule breeding so the third covering will occur at 24 years and 10 months, or that the third birth will occur at 24 years and 10 months, to gain the highest amount of inborn skills?

Thank you in advance for any input, I'm sure I could discover this through trial and error but figured I'd see if anyone else had figured it out first.

Inborn skills are based on BLUP alone. Breeding 100% BLUP or as close to 100% BLUP parents will give the highest inborn skill. Add in an Aphrodite's Tears to get 50% more inborn skills, and you can get even higher inborn skills.

Though with donkeys, the inborn skills will still be low due to the low Genetic Potential that donkeys have.

Age of the parents has no effect on inborn skills.

The factors that determine the foals IBS are:
- BLUP of both parents, you need +100BLUP for both parents for a chance at the highest IBS possible
- the use of Aphrodite's Tears to get 1.5 times the IBS - only worthwhile if you breed high BLUP parents as 0 x1.5 is still 0.
- the genetic potential of both parents - max IBS with tears is approx 0.312 x the foals GP so you have higher potential IBS with higher GP parents
- luck - there is random variation built into potential IBS for every breeding, you will always see a range of IBS with siblings from the same parents.

The parents stats at the time of breeding is what counts not when the foal is born.

The parents skills have no effect on the foals. The age of the parents has no effect once they have reached 10 years for their BLUP. Any pattern you think you have seen for older parents is a coincidence so don't waste your APs.

To be clear I didn't think parents being older was a factor, I only waited until they were as old as possible to get the maximum skill points I could through missions. It seems confusing that the parents' skills don't affect inborn skills but I'll take your word for it! Locking, thank you both for replying
