[UPDATED] Player Held Contests - Rules

Player Contest Rules Clarification

We’ve received feedback from Moderators and the communities on multiple Howrse games requesting clarification of the rules for player hosted contests and giveaways, specifically with offering horses as prizes.

Addendum: We've reviewed the rule about offering horses as prizes and have decided to allow you to offer a horse as a prize again.

Current rules

We allow players to host contests and giveaways according to the following rules:

  • You cannot require entrance fees or donations

  • You can give in-game prizes (Only those which can be done via the gifting options already within the game)

  • You cannot give Equus or passes as prizes

  • You do not have to give prizes

  • Your contest can only be posted on your presentation page or in your EC forum.

Review of rules

Some players want to offer horses as prizes and would like to know if this is allowed. We reviewed contests held on each version, and we identified the following:

On some versions, it has not been allowed for horses to be used as prizes; since the game does not include a tool for gifting horses. Selling a horse to a player costs them a fee to gain their prize. This falls within the Item and Pass Trafficking rules that are not allowed.

As a compromise, we will allow players to offer horses as prizes so long as the cost of the horse is the minimum amount that can be set - 500e. Since this is also considered a private agreement between players, we will not support these transactions. Contests are entered at your own risk and it is up to the contest holders to deliver the promised prizes.

In addition to the contest rules mentioned above, we have added the following:

- You can offer a horse as a prize provided the cost does not exceed 500 Equus.
- The horse offered as a prize can have Black Market items.
- Contest holders can ask but not require that participants re-post their contest banners.

Players who do not follow the rules are exposed to sanctions. For any questions, we encourage you to ask us directly via "Contact Us."

Then make an option to give horses away for free.
I honestly don't understand the problem with giving horses away for 500e. All it does is make players mad.

If it helps I think we should be able to giveaway horses for 500 Equus as long as the horse has a certain genetic potential or above so it's basically giving away a horse for free because it's a really good horse. That way it's not paying for a horse that isn't actually that good. Just my opinion

I agree, if it is in a giveaway chances are it's a uni or a horse of choice. Therefore getting that horse is hard for a cheap price and it would really help them. I wish that the Admin would see this as not pass trafficking or anything but as helping them out.

I agree with this a lot! I had an account before, but then I changed my psword and I forgot it. I always left a tab open though, so I could always stay on.

I decided I wanted to make a different account, and to gift all my horses to that new account. It didn't work, as I had to pay.
I agree with players who are saying that we should re-engage the old rules. Five hundred Equus is not a lot; the minimum. Hosting giveaways has always been a huge part of Howrse for me and I quite enjoy gifting them. I find it rather ludicrous that Owlient has classified this as laundering. It cannot be that difficult to generate a code for a gifting button. Provided Owlient has a coding team (which they do, otherwise new events and site maintenance would not be possible). I think most players will agree with me when I say the following:

Five Hundred Equus is not laundering, and if it is, encrypt a gift button. It cannot be difficult provided all that Howrse is capable of.

I think that these rules are unfair. For example, why can't we give away horses for free? Giveaways can help people get a good start in Howrse. These rules should definitely be updated!

Over two years later and it still has not happened. Oh wait but let's o what NO ONE asked for and completely redesign the trophies.

I agree with all those that have commented before. . . . . . . .

WHY can we not gift a horse to someone is the real question?

Can it be done, 100% because we can gift shop or black market items so it can be done.

So the question is why? ? Well, it comes down that the game moderators don't want to add this feature as it would be easier for some players to multi account and cheat. Agreed default smiley :@

BUT, on the other hand many of us that buy/sell horses have watched as someone buys a horse from you for example 180 passes (retired apple coat horse). This horse is then sold to another player for 500 equus usually the same day. Interesting I would say.

Like always, I love to stir the pot so please add your thoughts default smiley ;)

Cheers,

I've added your requests asking for a way to gift horses to the team.
Please remember that I cannot guarantee that this will be added to the game or if it is added that they will be exactly what you would like.

HellOw everyone,

The team has recently reviewed the rule about offering horses as prizes (for 500 Equus) for your player-held contests.

We have decided to allow you to offer horses as prizes again.

However, please remember that, while selling a horse for 500 equus is allowed in most situations, we reserve the right to sanction users who use such sales to sell horses for real money, to liquidate all horses on an account, or any other behavior that goes against Howrse’s terms of use.

The topic has been amended to align with this change

Thank you for your understanding in this matter!
