"The few studies which have been conducted of the structure of the skulls, mandibles and teeth of pit bulls show that, in proportion to their size, their jaw structure and thus its inferred functional morphology, is no different than that of any breed of dog. There is absolutely no evidence for the existence of any kind of "locking mechanism" unique to the structure of the jaw and/or teeth of the American Pit Bull Terrier."
4. The people raising fighting dogs today are a very small group. (approx. 1-2%) These people are criminals and gang members and they are a threat to society on many different levels. Breed bans will not stop these people or curb the danger they pose in our society.
5. Pit Bulls are used as service dogs and therapy dogs because of their loyalty, strength and intelligence.
6. Pit Bulls are used in Search and Rescue work and as police dogs. They are reliable and highly trainable.
7. Pit Bulls were so popular in the early 1900's that they were our mascot in World War One and World War Two. They were featured on recruiting and propaganda posters. I'm sure that there are many soldiers who can thank one of these brave dogs for saving their life, be it from a mustard gas attack, a sneak attack by the enemy, or one of the many other ways that these dogs aided their fellow soldiers and friends.
8. Pit Bulls are also refered to as 'Nanny Dogs' because of they are very tolerant of children.
This is Stubby, a decorated WW1 HERO!
9. According to the American Temperament Test Society, temperament evaluations of the American Pit Bull Terrier shows that the breed has a very high passing rate of 86.8%.
Other breeds were also tested. Here are some of the results, which may suprise you...
*Notice that certain 'aggressive' breeds score a higher passing rate than some of the more 'friendly' breeds.
**I picked popular breeds, and ones that have a minimum of 175 dogs tested.**
