This is my real-life problem child/certified princess/drama queen/swamp donkey (all said with the utmost love because, well, look at her, she's adorable)!  She's a six year old Standardbred and her registered name is Nice Buns Betty but around the barn we just call her Buns or Bunny.  For those fellow Standardbred folks, she's pacing bred and a Big Jim out of a Precious Bunny mare.  Buns qualified to race and raced once before her owners realized she just wasn't a fan of the whole racing situation.  They happened to have close connections to the New Start Standardbreds organization and sent Buns there to ensure she would have a soft landing and not end up in a bad situation.  I had been following the organization for quite a few years after my family sold our last homebred racehorse; I knew I wanted my first riding horse to be a Standardbred.  I was waiting around to see if Kimberly the organization's head was able to track down any of my family's old home breds more than I was looking to actually commit to a "new" horse but the second Buns was posted I jumped at the opportunity!  I drove 9 hours one way to go visit her one afternoon a few weeks later,  and a week after that I had roped a close friend into agreeing to make the same 18 hour trip to help me pick her up!  I still have contact with all of Buns' former race connections including her breeder and her race trainer, as well as Kimberly, who is now a pretty close friend; I try to give as many updates to them as I can and if anyone wanted to message me with questions or anything about her I would be happy to talk your ear off!
